BE ZELOUS TO FOR THE LORD

Zeal is one major driving force in our Christian walk. Infact, Zeal by definition is the dedication or enthusiasm for something. If you have zeal, you’re willing, energized, and motivated-even when you don’t have much or own so much. Zeal when used in a religious sense-it has two words tied to to it, -Devotion and Conviction. Show me a pastor, singer, teacher, layman or deacon without zeal towards what the Lord has called him to do, and i will show you a ministry that isn’t going far.

As Kenyans, we all have seen how zealous politicians are where politics is concerned. Nelson Mandela is is known for his zeal when it comes to fighting against Apartheid in South Africa. When campaigning, as it happened recently during campaigns, some politicians invited themselves into our homes, others did their best to make us there ambassadors and while others used every coin in their pocket to market their ideas and persuasions. Zeal is beyond what you’re passionate about. Actually, Zeal is an advanced level of passion. Zeal comes from conviction of spirit. In Romans 12:11, Paul advised believers not “not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Passion is just a starter but zeal is a self-assured confidence in God or something else that makes you put your life worthy nothing without communication what you have in mind.

Elijah as a prophet of God was a no-nonsense prophet. He had gone through so much and accomplished a lot in the name of the Lord. When hiding in a cave while running from Jezabel,” the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” His reply was,” “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. (1 Kings 19:9-10)

Elijah was not alone in scripture. When the children of Israel went astray and stated worship other “gods” and immoral perversions were prevalent in the camp of Israel in the wilderness, one man could not stand to see this evil happening in the midst of God’s people. Numbers 25:6-9 says “An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting. When Phinehas son of  Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw this, he got up from the assembly, took a spear in his hand, followed the Israelite man into the tent, and drove it through both the Israelite man and the woman—through her belly. Then the plague on the Israelites was stopped, but those who died in the plague numbered 24,000. This act of Phinehas in our days is called murder, but it never missed the attention of heaven. In verse 10:-13, The LORD spoke to Moses,“Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back My wrath from the Israelites because he was “ZEALOUS” among them with My “ZEAL”, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in My zeal.

It puzzles me that in verse 12-13 God rewards Phinehas. He says” Therefore declare: I grant him My covenant of peace. It will be a covenant of perpetual priesthood for him and his future descendants, because he was “ZEALOUS” for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.”

Dear saints, what are you “Zelous” about. What drives you? is it the will of God or the demands of the flesh, food or anything that is negative against the will of God? What makes you tick? The world and its leadership is turning south and there is a lot of misleading information from our leaders, but incase God looks at America, Kenya or whichever country you come from, my question is, will he see you as zealous for him, or will he see someone dancing to the tune of our misguided leaders of today. What used to be right sometime back, is now called a lie and every lie that we used to refute before, is not the truth governments wants as to believe-but will you stand out or just go with the demands of the day? Let me ask you again, incase the Lord wants to judge your country (God forbid),will he look at you and me and say Alex…John-Judy–(put your name) has turned back My wrath from judging this country -reason being,” because he\she was “ZEALOUS” among them with My “ZEAL”, so that I did not destroy them in My zeal? God wants us to atone for the sins of this nation through prayer and repentance. We have a responsibility from God. Let us all in multitude bow down and pray for our nation. As Paul the Apostle advised, let us not be lagging behind in diligence, but be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11. God bless you
